Effects of three blood derived products on equine corneal cells, an in vitro study

Abstract: The results demonstrate beneficial effects of PRP on proliferation as well as migration capacity of equine corneal cells in vitro. In vivo studies are warranted to determine further beneficial effects of PRP in horses with corneal ulcers.

“…at BTI Biotechnology Institute, a biomedical company that investigates in the fields of oral implantology and PRGF‐Endoret technology, we read with great interest the article by Rushton et al . regarding the assessment of three haemoderivatives on two types of equine primary ocular surface cells including corneal limbal cells and stromal cells. The blood‐derived products evaluated were autologous serum (AS) and two types of platelet‐rich plasma obtained with two different technologies: E‐PET™ (described in Rushton's article as PRP) and Endoret ® (described in Rushton's article as PRGF).…”

“…First of all, with regard to the PRGF obtaining protocol described in the work , we would like to remind the researchers that the centrifugation parameters should be specified as “relative centrifugal force” (g), and in case of indicate revolutions per minute (rpm), the radius of rotation (maximum) should be included. The accurate report of the centrifugation parameters is critical to compare this study with other protocols and to be able to reproduce the obtained data .…”
