Effects of torrefaction and water washing on the properties and combustion reactivity of various wastes

Abstract: On account of increasing waste problems and energy crisis, this study performed waste-to-energy on three kinds of intermediate waste epoxy resins, including the one used for printed circuit board manufacture (WE1), the one from Bisphenol A type epoxy resin (WE2), and the one from purifying process (WE3), using water washing and torrefaction. Biomass and coal were also tested for comparison. The properties, including proximate analysis, elemental analysis, higher heating value (HHV), and combustion characterist… Show more

“…Increase in torrefaction temperature usually reduces oxygen content and volatile matter of biomass, whereas it increases the FC and heating value 77,80,81 . In optimization studies of torrefaction parameters for various biomass, torrefaction temperature and residence time have been reported to have the maximum impact on the characteristics of the produced biochar 77,82,83 . The higher the temperature and residence time, the lower the moisture and volatile matter.…”

“…Chemical properties (ie, ash content, CO 2 reactivity) are also the key parameters for evaluating the baked anode quality. The ash content is the percentage of the residual content of the air‐dried sample heated to constant weight at 850 ± 20°C in the original sample volume 47 . CO 2 reactivity is used to examine the oxidation resistance of baked anode, which refers to the reaction ability of carbon anode sample with CO 2 gas at a certain temperature and within a specified time 48 .…”

“…Capturing water vapor from flue gas is key to solving these issues. From energy and environment prospects, clean coal technology 9 and waste‐to‐energy 10 have receiving a growing attention. Therefore, it is imperative to recycle moisture from high‐humidity flue gas exhausted by coal‐fired power plants.…”
