Effects of Types of Media and NPK Fertilizer on the Rooting Capacity of Chrysanthemum Cuttings

Abstract: Physiological status of chrysanthemum cuttings during rooting process highly influences plant growth and flower production. Amongst other aspects, rooting capacity of the cuttings is the most important. Rooting capacity is influenced by environmental conditions such as growing medium and nutrition. The study was aimed to analyze the effects of different types of media, fertilizer concentration, and frequency of fertilizer application on the rooting capacity of chrysanthemum cuttings. The experiment was conduct… Show more

“…alters the physicochemical characteristics of the growing mixtures and affects plant growth, root system, nutritional status 2 as well as the value of potted ornamental plants 3 . There is evidence for growing chrysanthemum plants in soilless growing media, including perlite, peat, creamsite, rice husk ash 4 , soilrite 5 , treated coir dust 6 , carbonized rice husk 7 and cocopeat + soilrite, cocopeat + compost 8 . The plant height, spread, flower weight and number of flowers in chrysanthemum variety 'Punjab Anuradha' were observed to be maximum in cocopeat + sand + FYM + vermicompost in equal ratio 9 .…”

“…Similar effects were also observed in different other plants (Akter et. al., 2013;Islam et al, 2010;Jaheduzzaman et al, 2012;Khan et al, 2016).The increased amount of decomposed cow dung enriched Nitrogen (N) phosphorus (P), Potasium (K) in soil (Ewulo et al, 2007) which are responsible for root induction of Chrysanthemum (Budiarto and Sulyo, 2013).…”
