Efficacy and safety of dorsal penile nerve block before collagenase of clostridium histolyticum injections in peyronie's disease patients: Results from a prospective pilot study

Abstract: Peyronie's disease (PD) is an acquired pathology characterized by the formation of fibrous plaques in the context of the tunica albuginea of the penis, with consequent development of penile deformities (Al-Thakafi & Al-Hathal, 2016). Although the epidemiological data are limited and inconsistent, different studies described an incidence of up to 5% in the general male population (La Pera et al., 2001; Lindsay et al., 1991), with peaks of up to 20.3% in selected subgroups (Arafa, Eid, El-Badry, Ezz-Eldine, & Sh… Show more

“…Given the magnitude of the opioid epidemic, efforts to minimize narcotic usage in the post-operative setting has become increasingly important, with nerve blocks becoming increasingly utilized in urologic procedures [25]. For IPP implantation, dorsal penile nerve blocks have been previously shown to provide reductions in pain in the immediate post-operative period, with no differences in narcotic usage between patients receiving the block and those in the placebo group [10].…”

“…ED [14][15][16][17][18][19][20], PE [21], PD [22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30], male infertility [31,32], genital aesthetic concerns [33][34][35][36][37], as well as several other conditions [38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45] can significantly impact the sexual health of male patients. When this happens, worries and doubts often lead patients to independently search for information on the Internet with every available tool [1,2].…”
