Efficacy and Safety of Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) Plus Rebamipide for Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection-induced Ulcers: A Meta-analysis

Abstract: Objective To compare the efficacy of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) with rebamipide versus PPIs alone for the treatment of ulcers after endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). Methods PubMed, Web of Science, Medline, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and China Naitonal Knowledge Infrastructure were searched up to the end of October 2013 in order to identify all randomized controlled trials reporting the effects of PPIs plus rebamipide on healing ulcers after ESD. The outcome measurement… Show more

“…Indeed, although mucoprotectives were associated with faster healing of the artificial ulcer in 2 recent reviews, 87,88 its impact on PPB was not evaluated, and so it remains unclear if these faster healing decreases PPB.…”

“…H. pylori plays an important pathogenic role in peptic ulcers, and eradication accelerates peptic ulcer healing and reduces ulcer recurrence . Several reports have shown that the infection status of H. pylori does not affect ulcer healing after ESD . However, in a prospective randomized study, Cheon et al.…”

“…There were previous reports trying to close the mucosal defect with an overstitch endoscopic suturing device or detachable snare and clips immediately after ESD. Several studies showed that combination of PPI and rebamipide, a free radical scavenger, promoted artificial ulcer healing after ESD . However, closing methods or gastric mucosa protective agents combination therapy could not show significant reduction in the rate of post‐ESD bleeding.…”
