“…12 It is approved for the treatment of hypertensive adults at once-daily doses of 75 mg, 150 mg, and 300 mg. 13 In hypertensive adults, once-daily administration of irbesartan effectively lowers blood pressure (BP) in a dose-dependent manner across the approved dosage range, [14][15][16] with placebolike tolerability demonstrated at doses up to 900 mg. 8 In healthy subjects, irbesartan is rapidly and almost completely absorbed after oral administration, with a mean absolute bioavailability of 60% to 80%. 17 Mean total body clearance is 157 to 176 mL/min, of which 3 mL/min is renal clearance.…”

“…Placebo-controlled studies with irbesartan (75-300 mg one per day) have shown a statistically significant BP reduction for both systolic and diastolic BP values in mild-to-moderate hypertensive patients [14][15][16]. BP lowering effect has a linear relationship with the dose up to 300 mg/day where a ceiling effect occurs, and no further BP decrease is observed with further dose increments [17].…”

“…The ability of irbesartan to produce dose-related reductions in BP was further confirmed in 2 double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trials. In a dose-titration study (11), 319 patients received irbesartan 75 mg, 150 mg, or placebo once daily; after 6 weeks, doses were doubled for those patients in whom SeDBP was ³ 90 mm Hg. As seen in the dose-ranging studies, statistically significant reductions in BP over placebo occurred with irbesartan 75 mg/150 mg and 150 mg/300 mg as early as 2 weeks, the first scheduled clinic visit.…”
