The histological makeup of the pancreas in immature male and female Iraqi blackbuck (Caprus hircus) has not been well described. We aimed to describe the histological features of the pancreas in immature male and female Iraqi blackbuck. Samples were collected from 20 immature male and female animals' pancreas, obtained from the Al-Najaf slaughterhouse. The samples were fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin, processed using standard histological methods, and stained with Gomori's, weigart's, Harris hematoxylin, eosin, and maldonad's stains (LOBA Chemie laboratory reagents and fine chemicals). The study showed that the goblet cells were underdeveloped and crowded, while the centroacinar cell's position and characteristics might indicate that these cells are involved in the transport of fluids and secretions within the duct system. The mean distribution of the total number of Langerhans islets' cells was similar across all groups (males and females), with no discernible variances. Morphometric analysis of the Langerhans islets revealed no differences in the distribution of islets between any of the studied groups in the right, left, or body of the pancreas. The histological analysis of the pancreas in immature male and female Iraqi blackbuck showed unique features regarding the arrangement of the islets of Langerhans, goblet cells, and centroacinar cells. These findings could contribute to a better understanding of the physiology and pathology of the pancreas in this species.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) stands as the most prevalent cardiac arrhythmia, with associated risks of stroke and systemic thromboembolism. While vitamin K antagonists, specifically warfarin, have historically been the mainstay for stroke prevention in AF, they come with inherent limitations. Aim: This review seeks to offer a comprehensive analysis of the efficacy, safety, and clinical advantages of novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) compared to traditional warfarin in AF management. Method: A meticulous examination of pivotal clinical trials, meta-analyses, and recent research publications was conducted. Four NOACs, namely Dabigatran, Rivaroxaban, Apixaban, and Edoxaban, were compared against warfarin, focusing on parameters like stroke prevention, risk of bleeding, patient compliance, and drug interactions. Results: NOACs, as a collective group, demonstrated a comparable or superior efficacy profile in stroke prevention compared to warfarin. They also showcased a more predictable therapeutic range, fewer drug and food interactions, and, in certain cases, a better safety profile. The challenges associated with frequent monitoring and dose adjustments inherent to warfarin therapy were notably absent with NOACs. Conclusion: NOACs present a robust alternative to warfarin for AF management, demonstrating comparable efficacy and, in certain aspects, heightened safety and practicality. However, the choice of anticoagulant should remain individualized, taking into account patient-specific factors and clinician expertise.

Comparison of the effects of Methotrexate and Etanercept on RANKL and OPG as Bone Metabolism Biomarkers in patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune diseasecharacterized by chronic inflammationthat affects joints and cartilage. Bone complications such asRA-relatedosteoporosis are one of the most extra-articular manifestations. Many inflammatory mediators are released during RA disease pathophysiology; these mediators stimulate osteoclast genesis of bone by direct effects on RANKL and OPG. The study aimedto measure RANKL, OPG in RA patients treated with Etanercept only and other groups treated with Methotrexate onlyat baseline and after three months to evaluate bone state. An observational case-control prospective study was done on 30 RA patients who received MTX, 30 RA patients who received ETN, and 30 healthy,age-matched control groups. The level of RANKL and OPG was measured at baseline and after three months of therapy by immunoenzymatically assay (ELISA). The results were tabulated and statistically analyzed usingthe statistical package for social science. The result demonstrated that RANKL level had a positive correlation with age and disease duration in contrast to OPG level showed a negative correlation with age and duration of disease. In the patients group treated with MTX at baseline, the RANKL level was significantly higher (181.336±65.583) than post-therapy (166.097±69.229), while the OPG level at baseline significantly lower (594.398±133.238) than post therapy (614.499±150.879). In ETN treated patients, the level of RANKL in baseline was significantly higher than (231.247±73.134) RANKL level post-therapy (200.363±76.807), while OPG level in baseline waslower (463.263±96.392) than post therapy (503.608±107.692). The study demonstrated in baseline RANKL/OPG ratio significant higher (0.4340±0.234) than post therapy (0.3690±0.222). All RA patients had or were at high risk for osteoporosis.Both Etanarcept and methotrexate produce insignificant differences on OPG and RANKL levels, in the same time this biomarkers are not good indicators for bone state.
