Efficacy of aspirin, prednisone, and multivitamin triple therapy in treating unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion: A cohort study

Abstract: Objective To assess the efficacy of aspirin, prednisone, and multivitamin triple therapy in treating unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion (URSA). Methods Data were reviewed from women with early RSA attending a hospital in Beijing, China, 2013–2017. Those with no abnormal indices (e.g., endocrine, coagulation, immune, genetic) were diagnosed as having URSA, and received aspirin, prednisone, and multivitamin therapy (triple therapy group, n=106) or folic acid monotherapy (control group, n=65). Treatment e… Show more

“…Emerging evidence shows that immunological disturbances and abnormal coagulation and anticoagulation may be involved in this disorder [ 7 , 8 ]. Various therapeutic strategies such as immunologic intervention with allogenic lymphocyte [ 9 ] and immunoglobulin [ 10 ], anticoagulant therapy using aspirin [ 11 ] or low-molecular weight heparin [ 12 ], hormonal supplementation with progesterone or dydrogesterone [ 13 ], and microelements supplementation, such as vitamin E, vitamin D [ 14 ], and folic acid [ 15 ], have been used to improve pregnancy outcomes among these women, but no effective treatment has been identified. To date, there is no widely accepted therapeutic approaches for URSA [ 16 ], bringing seriously physical and mental impacts to both the affected female population and their families [ 17 19 ].…”

“…They thus concluded that the triple therapy of aspirin, prednisone, and multivitamin was a good treatment option for women with unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortions. [17] So, currently there are studies which show that corticosteroids do have an effect on reducing the NK cell concentration that is raised in recurrent miscarriage patients. But treatment offers a doubtful increase in the live birth rate although it reduces the concentration of the NK cells.…”
