Efficacy of Cefazolin in the Treatment of Pregnancy and Vaginal GBS Infection and Its Influence on Inflammation and Maternal and Infant Outcomes

Abstract

Objective: This study was to investigate the effect of cefazolin in the treatment of pregnancy and vaginal GBS infection, as well as its impact on inflammation and maternal and infant outcomes. Methods: A total of 200 pregnant women with vaginal GBS infection during late pregnancy from May 2020 to July 2022 were selected and randomly divided into two groups: the intervention group (treated with cefazolin) and the conventional group (treated with conventional treatment). The postpartum infection, inflammation indicators, maternal and infant outcomes, and other indicators were compared between the two groups. Results: After the intervention, the inflammatory indexes (leukocyte count and procalcitonin) in the intervention group showed significant improvement compared to those in the conventional group (P<0.05). The rate of natural delivery and Apgar score at 1 minute after birth were higher in the intervention group compared to the conventional group (P<0.05). Additionally, the rate of preterm delivery was lower in the intervention group compared to the conventional group (P<0.05). After the intervention, the incidence of postpartum infection in the intervention group was lower than that in the conventional group (P < 0.05). Conclusion:The clinical effect of cefazolin in the treatment of pregnancy and vaginal GBS infection is significant. It can improve the infection status of patients, shorten the recovery time of inflammation indicators, and reduce the incidence of maternal and infant complications.
