Efficacy of chitosan‐coated paper incorporated with vanillin and ethylene adsorbents on the control of anthracnose and the quality of Nam Dok Mai mango fruit

Abstract: Mango fruit is perishable and susceptible to anthracnose. Active-coated paper is proposed as potential packaging for commercial application in wrapping mango fruit to control anthracnose and delay the ripening process of fruit. The surface of white standard bleached paper was coated using a vanillin-chitosan coating solution containing varying amounts of zeolite or activated carbon at 0% (vanillin paper), 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.4%, w/v of ethylene absorbers. The first objective was to study the effect of absorber t… Show more

“…Thus, TiO2-NPs in plants are exercised as a photocatalytic agent for ET with strong reducing activity under UV irradiation [31,32]. In postharvest storage of fruit and vegetables, the application of such an ET scavenger is thus entrusted more with its non-toxicity as well as less invasiveness within the fruit coats [33]. This have got evident in our experiment when Capsicum recorded a less bioaccumulation of Ti in the fruit pulp over the control.…”

“…Moreover, active chitosan/vanillin coating containing zeolite that exhibits the highest capacity of ethylene scavenger activity delayed the disease incidence of Nam Dok Mai mango fruit by providing the lowest onset of anthracnose disease. As mentioned in previous research, chitosan/vanillin coating was able to retain the physicochemical qualities of mango fruits, including weight loss, firmness, titratable acidity, total soluble solid, and color [ 52 ]. Chitosan-based coating supplemented with vanillin and geraniol exhibited bactericidal effects on apple cubes stored under refrigerated temperatures by retarding the growth of mesophiles, psychrotrophs, and yeasts and molds [ 53 ].…”

“…The film has effectively and efficiently maintained the packed bananas’ humidity and physical appearances. In addition, Jaimun and Sangsuwan [ 186 ] incorporated vanillin and ethylene adsorbents onto chitosan-coated paper to preserve the quality of Nam Dok Mai mango fruit. The coated paper contained varying concentrations of zeolite or activated carbon at 0%, 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.4%, w/v of the ethylene absorbers.…”
