Abstract:The continuous infusion of intra-articular bupivacaine via pain control infusion pumps after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using ipsilateral autograft quadrupled semitendinosus cannot be supported when postoperative visual analog scale pain scores and analgesic use are the rationale for justification.
“…Similar to other studies, there was no difference between groups for age, sex, weight, height, and duration of surgery, which provides a sample with uniform demographic data 6,9,11,17,24,25,[27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34] .…”

“…Many studies of IA medication use are for arthroscopic knee surgery, a procedure less painful than TKA, which used bupivacaine 16 , morphine 17 , clonidine 18 , and magnesium 19 with satisfactory results. Ketamine is rarely used, but it has been reported as an analgesic able to produce effect in peripheral pain control 9,[20][21][22] .…”

“…Studies are needed to determine the optimal dose of intra-articular S(+)-ketamine and evaluate its plasma concentration and its metabolites, in order to differentiate systemic from peripheral effect. An example is the study by Joshi et al 17 that assayed plasma morphine and found very low concentration, insufficient to promote postoperative analgesia, which suggests only local effect.…”

“…[5][6][7] Continuous administration of local anaesthetics into the joint by means of elastomeric balloon pump devices and intraarticularly placed catheters could be used in the outpatient setting but has unfortunately not been shown to be effective. 8 Other options to further reduce the incidence and severity of postoperative pain that are not associated with the risk of quadriceps motor dysfunction are, thus, still needed for patients undergoing outpatient anterior cruciate ligament repair.…”
Adjunct use of an ultrasound-guided block of the infrapatellar nerve is associated with improved pain relief and an increased number of sleep hours after arthroscopy-assisted anterior cruciate ligament repair.
“…L'efficacité de l'analgésie par cathéter intra-articulaire a déjà été prouvée par de nombreuses études [3][4][5][6][7][8]. En 2004, Mehdi et al [3], pour les reconstructions ligamentaires du genou, ne retrouvaient aucune différence significative en termes de douleur entre un groupe traité par cathéter fémoral périnerveux et un groupe traité par cathéter intra-articulaire avec infusion continue de bupivacaïne.…”
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
