Efficacy of dexlansoprazole-based triple therapy for Helicobacter pylori infections

Abstract: Background: Dexlansoprazole has been shown to be efficacious for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. However, there is a paucity of data about its efficacy for Helicobacter pylori eradication. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of dexlansoprazole for H. pylori eradication as triple therapy in real-world practice. Methods: Adult patients with endoscopically proven H. pylori related peptic ulcer diseases or gastritis were recruited for this study. The eradication status was assessed… Show more

“… 15 While empirical regimens have been deemed cost-effective and relatively efficient, 16 our study did not evaluate antibiotic resistance in all participants, a notable limitation given the significant role of antimicrobial resistance in treatment failure. 17 , 18 Antibiotic resistance emerges as an undeniable and critical one to achieving higher eradication rates, with patient compliance and environmental factors also influencing outcomes. 19 A questionnaire survey of 100 hospitals across China revealed that the application rate of bismuth-containing quadruple therapy was only 33% until 2017.…”

“…A head-to-head comparison with ESO in triple and quadruple regimens revealed acceptable rates of eradication. Although DL is one of the most popular PPIs prescribed in the United States, most studies have been performed in the Far Eastern countries [ 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 ] ( Table 1 ).…”

“…A head-to-head comparison with ESO in triple and quadruple regimens revealed acceptable rates of eradication. Although DL is one of the most popular PPIs prescribed in the United States, most studies have been performed in the Far Eastern countries [18][19][20][21] (Table 1). Tenatoprazole (TP) is a prodrug of omeprazole (O) with a longer plasma residence time, obtaining a prolonged and greater acid suppression than ESO.…”

“…Currently, antibiotic therapy is the most effective and commonly used treatment against H. pylori infection [9]. The efficacy of antibiotics in treating H. pylori is significantly limited by the highly acidic environment of the human stomach [10]. Antibiotics that exhibit resistance to acidic conditions and possess strong bactericidal properties, such as clarithromycin and amoxicillin, are preferred for treating H. pylori infections [11].…”
