Efficacy Of Dual Drug Therapy In Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients Uncontrolled With Metformin Monotherapy (2023)

Abstract

Type-2 Diabetes mellitus (type-2DM) is a multifactorial metabolic disorder, characterized by hyperglycemia. Evaluate the efficacy of glimepiride and teneligliptin in combination with metformin in type-2 diabetes mellitus (2DM) patients uncontrolled with metformin alone. 60 Type-2 DM patients uncontrolled with metformin mono therapy were enrolled and divided in to 2 groups, group-A and group-B, 30 patients each. After taking history and concern, the clinical examination and biochemical investigations including HbA1c, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), post prandial plasma glucose (PPPG) were done, followed by group-A patients were given glimepiride 1mg/OD and metformin 500 mg/BD after major meal for 3 months where as group-B patients were given teneligliptin 20mg/OD and metformin 500mg/BD after major meal for 3 months. FPG, PPPG was done every week for 3 months and HbA1c was repeated at 3 rd month. Data was collected and analyzed using SPSS software and results were expressed as Mean ± SD. A significant decrease in HbA1c, FPG and PPPG was observed in both group A and group B after 4 th , 8 th and 12 th week of study when compared with baseline values, but high mean reduction of HbA1c, FPG and PPPG was observed in group-B as compared to group-A. Teneligliptin and Metformin had shown better improvement on glycemic control as compared to glimepiride and metformin. The efficacy of teneligliptin is more than glimepiride.
