The Giant African Snail (GAS) is a native of East Africa and. Presently the snail had infested over many areas and is becoming very difficult to control. This snail feeds on over 500 species of vegetation, and given that the Eastern Uttar Pradesh is self-sufficient in vegetable production, the burden of this pest can be a significant threat to Eastern Uttar Pradesh’s domestic food security. The GAS can be considered the only agricultural polyphagous herbivorous pest which is a threat to public health since it is a known vector of the rat lungworm which causes eosinophilic meningoencephalitis in humans. The study can provide insight into the preferences for selected parts within a plant which can be incorporated into the design for more target-specific crop protection approaches. Giant African snails are an invasive, and can cause extensive damage to important food crops and other agricultural and natural resources. They eat crops, reducing yields and making them unsuitable for sale. Some snails grow to 15 cm in length and 5- 8 cm wide, whereas others only grow to 6.5 cm in length. Commonly, the shells are light brown with darker brown and cream bands. The present review evaluated that the GAS is the second worst invasive alien species in the world.

The incidence of endemic disease fascioliasis can be reduced by effective snail control which is one of the most important tools. Essential oils and their constituents are gaining increasing interest for use as safe alternatives to pesticides for controlling various pests including gastropods. In the present study, some of the essential oils were demonstrated as potent molluscicides against the vector snail Lymnaea acuminata. The main objective of this research is to evaluate the molluscicidal activity of the essential oils of Polianthes tuberosa bulb, Allium sativum bulb, and their active molluscicidal components hecogenin and allicin against the snail Lymnaea acuminata. The effect of sub-lethal treatments (40% and 80% of 24h LC 50 ) of different plant-derived molluscicides on different enzyme activities in the nervous tissue of snail Lymnaea acuminata was studied. It is evident from the present results that P. tuberosa and A. sativum bulb essential oils exhibited as strong molluscicides of plant origin. The present study can help reduce the incidence of fascioliasis. These essential oils may offer an alternative tool for the control of fascioliasis in the cattle population of eastern Uttar Pradesh of India. Snails exposed to sublethal concentrations of essential oils of and compared with the active molluscicidal components a significant inhibition in acetylcholinesterase (AChE), acid/alkaline phosphatase (ACP/ALP), lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) and Na + K + ATPase activities in the nervous tissue of L. acuminata. Essential oils and active compounds of both the plant origin molluscicides were highly toxic and show significant inhibition in different biochemical parameters to L. acuminata compared with their crude forms.

In eastern Uttar Pradesh, fascioliasis, an endemic zoonotic disease, is quite prevalent. Essential oils that are produced from various plants are extremely important to human health. The current study found that the essential oils from Tachyspermum ammi seeds and Syzygium aromaticum cloves are effective herbal molluscicides against the vector snail Lymnaea acuminata. Syzygium aromaticum cloves and Tachyspermum ammi seeds are used to extract their essential oils using both conventional and unconventional techniques, such as solvent extraction (SE) and hydrodistillation (HD). The results section makes it evident that both of the essential oils from Syzygium aromaticum clove and Tachyspermum ammi seeds have a high level of molluscicidal activity (24-hour LC50 values are 3.01 and 2.35), particularly against the vector snail Lymnaea acuminata. The current investigation unequivocally showed that the exposed vector snails to the essential oils are extremely harmful. The aim of the present investigation is to establish the molluscicidal activity of the essential oils of Syzygium aromaticum clove and Tachyspermum ammi seeds against the vector snail Lymnaea acuminata.
