Efficiency improvement for LLC converter based on automatic tuning of blanking time

Abstract: Summary As for the traditional LLC converter, there is a problem in efficiency at light load. In order to keep the output voltage of this converter constant at a given value at light load, the switching frequency will be increased, and hence, the efficiency would be degraded. Consequently, based on the inherent frequency modulation and from the point of view of blanking time tuning, the efficiency at light load will be further improved due to circular current reduction, and at the same time, the efficiencies u… Show more

“…In addition, optimal trajectory methods are used in [19,20]. Nevertheless, these components increase the size and weight of the system, resulting in a bulky design that adds to the overall cost of operation [21]. In [22,23], a fixed-frequency asymmetrical duty cycle (ADC) controlled converter was introduced that offers a distinct advantage: it incorporates built-in load short-circuit protection, eliminating the need for additional components.…”

“…5 The zero-voltage switching (ZVS) and zero-current switching (ZCS) can be achieved in the LLC resonant converter, which ensures that it can transmit power with high efficiency and high switching frequency. [6][7][8] One conventional method of the modulation for LLC resonant converters is pulse frequency modulation (PFM). However, when the traditional LLC converters are adopted in the wide voltage gain range applications, a wide switching frequency range is inevitably required, which may bring difficulties to magnetic components and EMI filter design.…”

“…In recent years, LLC resonant converters have been widely used in various fields due to their good soft switching characteristics in the full load range. [9][10][11][12] However, the resonant converter transmits energy through the resonant network. In the DC parallel system which is composed of parallel resonant converters, the difference in resonant parameters between different converters will cause the output current between the power modules to be unbalanced.…”

“…For the DC power supply system under this structure, how to solve the problem of unbalanced output current between modules is the primary consideration. In recent years, LLC resonant converters have been widely used in various fields due to their good soft switching characteristics in the full load range 9–12 . However, the resonant converter transmits energy through the resonant network.…”
