A cache stores data in order to serve future requests to those data faster. In mobile devices, the data have to be transferred from a server through the mobile network before being stored in the cache. The mobile network is prone to failure caused by users' movements and by the placement of base transceiver stations. Moreover, the mobile devices use various telecommunications technologies and therefore the speed of the network is highly variable. Using a cellular network for communication is also expensive. The cache is an intermediate component which addresses this problem. Once the data are downloaded, they can be stored in the cache for possible future reuse. When using a cache, the system designer presumes that the data will be requested again in the future. On the other hand, the original data stored on the server can be changed. Then, the cached data are in an inconsistent state. In this paper, authors present an adaptive method for maintaining the consistency of cached data which saves network traffic by reducing the number of messages needed for inconsistency detection.

With an evolution of Internet and related technologies such as 4G, and 5G, there is a need of fast response time for various queries raised by intermediate nodes and mobile terminals from infra structured-based/less networks. Although there has been many efforts in the past to address this issue by using an invalidation report (IR)-based cache management schemes which reduce the bandwidth requirements, and battery consumptions, but when the update rate of data at the server is high, then most of the existing approaches have long query latency due to large and fixed size of IRs, and broadcast time (BT) interval. To address these issues, in this paper, an adaptive cache invalidation technique (ACIT) is proposed. In comparison to the previous approaches, the proposed scheme uses different thresholds update rates for adaptive IR, and BT intervals. In the proposed scheme, only hot data updates in IR are recorded which results a less query delay, and bandwidth consumption. The performance of the proposed scheme was studied by extensive simulations by comparing it with the other state-of-the-art schemes using various metrics. The proposed scheme yields 1.5 times enhancement in query response time with a reduction in IR size to 25 % in comparison to other existing techniques. Moreover, there is a reduction of 119.89 % in broadcast time interval using the proposed scheme.

Advancement in evolution of Internet technologies like 3G, 4G, and 5G, there is a need of good quality of service (QoS) for such wireless networks. Faster responses are required for various queries raised by mobile terminals (MTs) from any mobile computing environment. There has been many research works proposed in the past to address the QoS issue by using an Invalidation Report (IR)-based cache management schemes. In all such cases, IRs become unmanageable due to the poor utilization of available bandwidth and larger size of IRs. Broadcast times are fixed and longer due to which IR looses its effectiveness and hit ratio degrades, So, to address these issues, in this paper, we have simulated cache invalidation techniques scenario on NS2.35, peer cache invalidation techniques like Time Stamping and Update Invalidation Report based techniques are simulated and tested to show performance on basis of various parameters like Hit Ratio, Query Delay by varying cache update interval and cache size. At the end we have also suggested the future directions for such techniques.
