Granulocyte transfusion therapy is a rational therapeutic option for patients with prolonged, severe neutropenia. Although high molecular weight hydroxyethyl starch (hHES) facilitates the separation of red blood cells during granulocyte collection, renal dysfunction has been noted as a potential side effect.
