Efficient motion vector outlier removal for global motion estimation

Abstract: Because motion vector based global motion estimation methods have much lower complexity than pixel based ones, they are widely used in the compressed domain to estimate the camera motion in video sequences. However, the accuracy of these motion vector based methods largely depends on the quality of the input motion vector field. In real applications, many outlier motion vectors are present because of noise or foreground objects. In this paper, a novel tensor voting based motion vector outlier removal method is… Show more

“…The kernel bandwidth parameters used were (ℎ , ℎ ) = (8,4). Comparative studies is carried out with the following methods to validate our proposed outlier removal method using mean shift clustering: i) Gradient descent (Plain GD) [5], ii) Filter method (FLT GD) [8], iii) Cascade-of-rejectors (CAS GD) [6], iv) Tensor Voting method (TV GD) [10].…”

“…On similar lines, camera motion parameters were estimated directly from the MPEG domain using least squares solution and its application to annotation of basketball videos was investigated in [8]. Recently, a motion vector outlier removal method for GME was based on 2-D tensor voting process among motion vectors [9]. GME in compressed domain following the generic helmholtz principle to counter the outliers was proposed in [10].…”
