Efficient routing through discretization of overlapped road segments in VANETs

Abstract: Routing in vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) is based on the contacts through vehicle-to-vehicle communications. Due to the high probability and long duration, contacts on the overlapped trajectories among vehicles play an important role during routing. However, both the stochastic vehicular mobilities and non-ignorable road distances lead to high spatio-temporal fluctuations for the probabilistic contacts on the overlapped trajectories, which can diversify routing decisions. In this paper, we propose a novel… Show more

“…In 2017, Song et al [24] have implemented a narrative approach called sampling‐based estimation scheme (SES) that summarise every segment as a sample and discretised the probabilistic contacts on the overlapped roads into a small number of segments. In this, the duration of contact among two vehicles that moved in contrary directions was lesser on their overlapped road except for the probability of contact that was higher.…”

“…However, the major challenge of this methodology is the Internet access has yet to be provided and also needs improvement in cloud computing connection. SES [24] has offered better accuracy, and the computational cost is low. Still, it contains some drawbacks such as some available routing path is missed and maximum flow problem.…”

“…On the contrary, the period of the contact among two vehicles traveling in a similar direction on the overlapping road was superior; however, their interaction probability was lesser. From the analysis, the accomplished SES could attain proficient routing by in view of the above features [5].…”

“…Also, the SES scheme was employed, which offers enhanced reliability and it minimizes the delay for every cycle. However, it has to focus on the waiting time [5]. O-CLWPR classifier was exploited that provides minimal overhead load and it also offers reduced delay, anyhow, it has to consider more on geographic routing [6].…”

“…To increase the efficiency of the store-carry-forward approach, the Sampling-based Estimation Scheme (SES) was proposed [26]. SES calculates the probabilities of a vehicle contact on a road segment and based on that, the best route is chosen.…”
