Efficient sodium bisulfite-catalyzed synthesis of benzothiazoles and their potential as ureases inhibitors

Abstract: In this work we report the successful use of sodium bisulfite as catalyst for the synthesis of 19 benzothiazoles (BZTs) under microwave irradiation with yields from 80% to 100%.

“…Benzoic acid, o ‐hydroxyaniline, 2‐aminothiophenol, and IrCl 3 ‧nH 2 O were purchased from Energy Chemical. The ligands, potassium bis(diphenylthiophosphoryl)amide (S‐tpipK) [32], 2‐phenylbenzo[d]oxazole (bo) [51], 2‐phenylbenzo[d]thiazole (bt) [52], and 2‐(thiophen‐2‐yl) benzo[d]thiazole (thbt) [53] were synthesized according to the literature procedure. All other reagents were used without further purification unless otherwise stated.…”

“…[385][386][387] Previous methods for synthesizing these compounds have involved the use of metal catalysts such as Pd (Scheme 41 (a) and (c)), Ru (Scheme 41 (b) and (d)) or combinations of PhCl/DMSO (Scheme 41 (e)), xylene (Scheme 41 (f)), or DMA (Scheme 41 (g)). [388][389][390][391][392][393][394] Some metal-free approaches have also been explored by malakar and group for the similar transformations. [395,396] But most of the discussed synthetic routes required expensive and complex starting materials.…”
