Efficient Synthesis of N‐Acylureas Using Copper Oxide Supported on Magnetic Nanoparticles in Deep Eutectic Solvent

Abstract: A unique combination of deep eutectic solvent (the combination of urea with choline chloride) and magnetic CuO@γ‐Fe2O3 nanoparticles as a green magnetic nanocatalyst promotes the synthesis of N‐acylureas from reaction carbodiimides with carboxylic acids. This reaction gives the corresponding N‐acylurea derivatives in good to high yields. Easy preparation and separation, inexpensive, insensitivity to moisture and reusability of the catalyst are significant features of this method.

“…6 Abbasi and colleagues recently described a green magnetic nanocatalyst reaction of carbodiimides with carboxylic acid to produce Nacyl urea. 7 Compounds containing a biaryl linkage have various applications in pharmaceutical and material sciences. 8 Prep-aration of novel compounds, when achieved using palladiumcatalyzed Suzuki−Miyaura cross-coupling (SMC) of aryl halides with arylboronic acids, is both exceptionally versatile and remarkably expedient since boronic acids are usually nontoxic, chemically inert to air and moisture, and thermally stable and are far easier to handle than other frequently used cross-coupling reagents.…”

“…Finally, N-acylureas were prepared using N,N′-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) and benzoic acid derivatives at 60 °C in the mixture ChCl:urea (1:2) as a solvent. This reaction was catalyzed by copper oxide supported in magnetic iron nanoparticles [ 124 ].…”

“…[5] A recent method has reported the preparation of N-acylureas using dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) and various carboxylic acids using a copper-oxide nanocatalyst, but the urea -substituted alkyl side chains were only limited to the cyclohexyl group (Scheme 1b). [6] Interestingly, acyl carbamates are useful intermediates and can react with amines to produce N-acylureas (Scheme 1c). Here the acyl carbamates are prepared from diphenyl carbonate and sodium hydride.…”
