“…The asymmetrical disposition of the clamps in the genus Diplozoon has been utilized in the diagnoses of certain species. The arrangement of the clamps in a linear series of eight on each haptor of D. barbi is used by Reichenbach-Klinke (1951, 1954 as a specific character. Similarly, Sterba (1957) believes the staggered arrangement of the two rows of clamps on the haptor is characteristic of D. tetragonopterini.…”

“…The attachment of several solitary parasites has been described (Llewellyn, 1956a(Llewellyn, , 1957a(Llewellyn, , 1958, but no analysis has been attempted previously of the attachment to the host of a fused pah* of parasites. Moreover, the asymmetrical disposition of the posterior adhesive organs has been used as a specific character in two species of Diplozoon, namely in D. barbi by Reichenbach-Klinke (1951, 1954 and in D. tetragonopterini by Sterba (1957) and since in Discocotyle sagittata the asymmetrical nature of the haptor has een shown to be facultative and so of very limited taxonomic value (Llewellyn & Owen, 1960), the attachment of Diplozoon paradoxum to the gills of Rutilus rutilus L., the roach, has been studied.…”

“…However, the descriptions of most diplozoid taxa display varying complexities of clamp sclerite detail, with some presenting simpler structures, as per Goto [29] (e.g. [30,31]), while others produced more detailed illustrations (e.g. Gläser [32]).…”
