Abstract: Celiac disease is a life-long enteropathy caused by an intolerance to gluten. The pathologic lesion of the small intestinal mucosa is characterized by the loss of absorptive villi, crypt cell hyperplasia, and infiltration of the lamina propria with inflammatory cells.
