El acto-espacio femenino, su definición y la matriz de representación [MR], en La familia de Pascual Duarte

Abstract

In another essay I have written about the existence of a masculinity code that determines Pascual Duarte's behavior in Camilo José Cela's novel La familia de Pascual Duarte (1942). In this essay I propose the existence of an economy, the economy of the social act-space in charge of the strategies of management, regulation and delimitation of each one's acts. More precisely, it is the patriarchal economy that might as well include any other definition in the purely economic sense. This essay shows how the representation of women in the novel obeys the rules of that economy as a contrapart of the masculinist code. In the novel, the observed acts define women, but it is the reproduction of the patriarchal system by men/women and the subjection of these last to a social act-space conferred by the before mentioned economy. Thus, the masculine identity defines, by parallelism, the one for women. Women's identity is not defined from their own perspective, in order for women to have an identity there is a requirement of two, and one, the first one, must be for men.
