Its archaeological visibility increases dramatically from the late pre‐Columbian period, when places of gathering, such as two ballcourts, emerged in the middle of the island, and especially from the mid‐thirteenth century, when its caves filled up with rock art (Dávila Dávila, 2003; Samson and Cooper, 2023).
