“…Williamson and Hall mentioned that crystallite size and stress can affect the broadness of diffraction lines. However, UDM model of W-H method clearly differentiate size and strain parameters in the assessment of peak broadening with due importance to peak width as a function of 2θ [33]. The strain 'ε' in LHA nano powders due to crystal dislocation was calculated using the mathematical expression given below:…”

“…At first glance (Table 2 and Figure 13), the elastic behavior of SGMZ appears to be quite similar to that of other crystals with the magnetoplumbite structure, such as Sc-doped hexaferrites 26 and rare-earth hexa-aluminates. 31 Common to these crystals is a moderate elastic anisotropy, as indicated by ratios c′ max /c′ min of about 1.35 of the extreme values of their longitudinal elastic stiffness c′(u) = u 1i u 1j u 1k u 1l c ijkl , with the minimum parallel to the 6-fold axis and the maximum within the hexagonal plane. The u 1i denote direction cosines.…”

“…As the electrostatic interactions in the R-blocks are weaker than those in the S-blocks (because of the lower valence of the incorporated cations (Ga 3+ and Sr 2+ )), the larger M−O bond distances, and the cation disorder, SGMZ behaves softer in this direction than in MgGa 2 O 4 spinel. Replacement of Ga 3+ by Al 3+ leads to a reduction of the unit-cell volume, 31 i.e., the mean bond distance M−O becomes smaller and the corresponding Coulombic interactions stronger, resulting in a significant increase of the mean elastic stiffness of hexa-aluminates compared to hexagallates. Larger differences are observed in the deviations from Cauchy relations (Figure 13), a second-rank tensorial invariant of the elasticity tensor with components g mn (see ref 36 for details).…”
