Aim:To critically synthesize the literature that describes men's help-seeking and engagement with general practice.Design: Integrative literature review.Data sources: CINAHL plus, Medline and APA PsycInfo were searched for papers published between 1999 and March 2021.Review methods: After screening titles and abstracts, full-text papers were screened against inclusion / exclusion criteria. All included papers were assessed for methodological quality. Findings were extracted, critically examined and synthesized into themes.Results: Twenty studies met the inclusion criteria. Thematic analysis revealed four themes related to; (1) structural barriers, (2) internal barriers, (3) men's understanding of the role of general practice, and (4) self-care and help-seeking. The findings indicate that men can find general practice unwelcoming and unaccommodating. Men can also experience psychological barriers that impact engagement and help-seeking.Men predominantly view general practice as a source of acute health care and do not appreciate the role of general practice in preventive health care and advice. Conclusion:This review has provided insight into the issues around the barriers to health care engagement, men's understanding of the role of general practice and their associated help-seeking. Seeking to further understand these issues could assist in the development of strategies to promote engagement of men with general practice health care.Impact: This review highlights research about men's engagement with general practice and the missed opportunities in receiving preventive health care and education. Enhancing men's engagement with general practice has the potential to reduce the impact of their health on quality of life and improve health outcomes.

Objective: Propose the concept of vulnerability of the elderly based on the Hybrid Concept Development Model. Method: Methodological study with a qualitative approach, based on the theoretical-methodological framework of the Hybrid Concept Development Model. Initially, an integrative literature review was carried out, followed by empirical collection through semi-structured interviews with 12 professionals. As a method of analysis of the interviews, the Grounded Theory was used. The final analytical phase constituted the interface between theoretical and empirical evidence. Results: When carrying out the theoretical survey, it became possible to outline the attributes, antecedents and consequences of the studied phenomenon. After analyzing the empirical data, two phenomena emerged: Unveiling the multiple changes arising from the human aging process; and Understanding the multiple dimensions of the elderly person’s vulnerability construct. Final considerations: The vulnerability of the elderly person consists of a multifaceted construct, in which individual and collective conditions interact with each other.

O envelhecimento é um processo fisiológico normal na vida de um indivíduo, na qual altera a capacidade funcional, emocional e física, sendo a atenção primária à saúde (APS) o principal viés de atendimento especializado para estes indivíduos. Nesse sentido, o conhecimento sobre o perfil dos pacientes que buscam esses locais é considerado uma ferramenta estratégia de melhoria para ações de saúde pública. Este estudo teve como objetivo definir o perfil dos usuários geriátricos atendidos em uma Unidade de Saúde Básica (UBS) localizada no município de Imaculada, Paraíba, Brasil, entre os meses de março e agosto de 2022. Trata-se de um relato de experiência, com abordagem qualitativa realizada durante a prática curricular de Estágio Supervisionado de Residência. Durante os meses avaliados, 383 idosos, sendo 250 mulheres e 133 homens foram consultados, sendo a maior procura pela unidade de mulheres com 60-64 anos e homens com 80 anos ou mais. A maior busca por atendimento médico estava relacionada a queixas de hipertensão com complicações (78 indivíduos) e diabetes não-insulino dependentes (49 pacientes). Quando a principal reclamação por parte dos indivíduos, está a demora no processo de marcação de exames e as consultas com médicos especializados. No mais, o estudo corroborou para o melhor conhecimento dos usuários, inferindo as principais causas que influenciam a procura por atendimento. Dessa forma, a vivência na UBS contribuiu para entender as principais doenças que afetam a população local e os desafios enfrentados pela equipe multidisciplinar da unidade.
