Electrical Discharge Machining: Vital to Manufacturing Industries

Abstract: This paper presents an insight of state of art of electrical discharge machining process. In this process, material gets eroded from the workpiece because of chain of speedily repeating current discharges amidst twin electrodes, which are parted by dielectric fluid and made prone to a potential difference. This process offers various advantages over conventional process and finds wide applications in various industries. The information provided in this study will be very useful for the beginners to understand … Show more

“…Khan et al [27] sought to improve ECM method variables using a combination comprising SS 316 (work piece) & Copper as a tool (tool material). Total 27 tests were performed to assess the effect of ECM variables like electrolyte conc., applied voltage, current, as well as feed rate of tool upon the work's MRR& SR. Khan et al [28] Other than the mechanical qualities of metal, it was discovered that thermal properties play a more important role; the forces created in this technique are modest, and thus burrs are not obtained. Khan et al [29] explored the possibility of utilizing jatropha oil as a source of dielectric medium in replacement with kerosene oil, which is environmentally benign.…”

“…Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is used to machine hard and difficult-to-machine materials. The material is expulsed from the workpiece through melting and vaporization when a spark occurs in a small gap between the work sample and the tool [1]. The accuracy of the machined component is greatly influenced by the shape and accuracy of the tool used since, the tool has a shape that corresponds to the intended profile to be formed on the workpiece.…”
