Electrical explosion process and amorphous structure of carbon fibers under high-density current pulse igniting intense electron-beam accelerator

Abstract: The development of pulsed power technology, particularly for inductive energy storage, promotes the extensive discussions of electrical explosion process in high energy density. This paper presents the electrical-explosion behavior of carbon fibers subjected to about 20 kA, 5 ms high-density current pulse igniting an intense electron beam accelerator. After electrical explosion, and surface rupture, submicron particles, fibrillar and strip-shaped structures were observed, experimentally supporting the microstr… Show more

“…There are numerous applications of HPMs in material processing, plasma heating, and environment improving (Barker et al, 2001;Thumm & Kasperak, 2002;Hong et al, 2009), among others. In recent years, benefiting from the rapid development of pulse power technologies Kovalchuk et al, 2009;Mao et al, 2009;Cheng et al, 2009), electron emitter technologies (Li et al, 2009b(Li et al, , 2009c, and so on Aria et al, 2009), HPM sources generating narrow-band HPMs (Korovin et al, 2003) have been developed extensively. Efforts have also been made on increasing the output power, pulse duration, and conversion efficiency of these devices.…”

“…In addition, I want to thank our readers and subscribers that they regard Laser and Particle Beams as a first rate source of information on new scientific developments in the field of basic physics issues regarding intense laser and particle beams, pulse power technology associated with beam generation, and related applied science topics. The subjects we covered last year included the physics of high energy densities; non-LTE phenomena; hot dense matter and related atomic, plasma and hydrodynamic physics and astrophysics; intense sources of coherent radiation; high current particle accelerators; beam-wave interaction; and pulsed power technology (Adonin et al, 2009;Andreev et al, 2009;Chen et al, 2008;Fazio et al, 2009;Hong et al, 2009;Imasaki & Li, 2009;Kasperczuk et al, 2008;Kovalchuk et al, 2009;Laska et al, 2009;Li et al, 2009;Popov et al, 2009;Tahir et al, 2009;Yu et al, 2009). We are happy to see that the number of submissions is steadily rising.…”
