Electrical properties of ultra thin evaporated polypropylene films

Abstract

A u l t r a t h i n p o l y p r o p y l e n e film ( t h i n PP film) i s d e p o s i t e d on a glass s u b s t r a t e from a e v a p o r a t i n g s o u r c e in vacuum. The t e m p e r a t u r e of t h e g l a s s s u b s t r a t e is kept a t 100 " C d u r i n g t h e deposition. The thin PP film is a b o u t 100 A in thickness. An Al/thin W/Al is a specimen with e v a p o r a t e d A1 e l e c t r o d e s ( area of 2mm s q u a r e ) on both s i d e s of a t h i n PP f i l m . The conduction c u r r e n t s in Al/thin PP/Al are explained by a t u n n e l i n g effect a n d i t s breakdown v o l t a g e is a b o u t 12 HV/cm.
