“…The few ergonomics studies on the work of grid electricians point to the adverse conditions of excessive cold (Paivnen, 2006), heat, and high level of both physical and mental load, generating stress, fatigue, pain, musculoskeletal disorders risk, and in the final instance, death (Guimarães, Fisher, Faé, Salis, & Santos, 2002), mainly in emergency situations (Figueiredo et al, 2002;Lima, Gomes, & Melo, 2002), when the work conditions are more critical. Statistics on accident rates are not fully available (Paivnen, 2006), but Buriol, Rozendo, Geus, Scheer, and Felsky (2009) estimated the direct cost of accidents in a Brazilian company to be approximately US$1,750,000 in 8 months. The handbook developed by the Electric Power Research Institute (2001) has ergonomic recommendations for tasks with moderate to high risk for musculoskeletal disorders.…”
