Electricity infrastructure and innovation in the next phase of energy transition—amendments to the technology innovation system framework

Abstract: A new phase of energy transition makes auxiliary technologies such as energy storage and other flexibility options more important. Economic policy that aims to steer this transition needs to grasp the complex system dynamics underlying energy and society. This conceptual article gives an overview of energy technology innovation theories that exemplify the growing importance of flexibility for electricity usage. First, the article presents different conceptualizations of technology innovation and diffusion. Sec… Show more

“…In this paper we build on suggestions that the discipline of IPE should play a central role in examining and explaining the global green transition that is under way (Kuzemko et al 2019 ; Newell 2019 ; Pearse 2020 ; Bettin 2020 ). We address the question as to why it is the NEAsian countries that utilize the full panoply of industrial strategies in driving the clean and green energy transition.…”

“…Central to this infrastructure are alloy pipelines, which serve as critical conduits for transporting various energy resources, such as oil, natural gas, and refined products, over vast distances. The integrity and longevity of these pipelines are of utmost importance in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of energy systems (Bettin, 2020;Schnidrig et al, 2023). This literature review aims to comprehensively analyze the current state of alloy pipelines in energy infrastructure, exploring existing research, studies, and case studies related to their lifespan.…”

“…Hekkert et al (2020a) have posed that the transformation processes brought about by missions can be conceptualized as taking place in a spatially and temporally defined MIS. This idea of MIS, takes inspiration from the technological innovation system framework (TIS), one of the key frameworks used to analyze innovation and transformative dynamics in specific sectors and technological fields (Bergek et al, 2015;Hekkert et al, 2007) and often used to defining instruments supportive of accelerating the desired socio-technical transitions (Bettin, 2020;Esmailzadeh, 2020;Kieft, 2021).…”
