Electro-deposition of bactericidal and corrosion-resistant hydroxyapatite nanoslabs

Abstract: Herein, nanoscale hydroxyapatite (HA) with a slab-like morphology was synthesized, and its size was calculated to be in the range of 80-150 nm, as confirmed via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The nanoscale HA with a slab-like structure has been referred as HA nanoslabs in the manuscript. The composition, crystallinity, wettability, bacterial resistance porosity, surface roughness and corrosion resistance of these HA nanoslabs were studied using energy dispersive spectrosc… Show more

“…According to Fig. 1 A, the pores were found homogenously distributed in the mineral coating, which was consistent with the pore distribution in previous reports employing electrochemical deposition technique [ [33] , [34] , [35] ]. The eventual porosity of the mineral coating was around 60%.…”

“…The relative intensities calculated for the 20, 30, 60, and 80 kGy gamma-irradiated HAp samples were 0.248, 0.260, 0.274, and 0.282, respectively. From the relative intensity value, the preference was calculated by employing the following equation: 28 Here, eqn (14) denotes the standard relative intensity at the same plane. The computed preference growth of the (002) plane was 0.31, 0.38, 0.44, and 0.49 for the 20, 30, 60, and 80 kGy irradiated samples, respectively.…”

“…The RI for the (020) plane can be computed using eqn (9). 22 The RI of a standard is an essential operator for the exploration of preference growth, which was measured from the ICDD card no. : #00-033-0311 of gypsum using eqn (9).…”

“…Crystallite size; D average ¼ Kl average FWHM average cos q average (22) The measured average was then used to estimate the crystallite size from eqn (22). The crystallite sizes calculated from the average of three peaks model are 68 and 44 nm for gypsum and bassanite, respectively.…”
