Electro-Fenton catalyzed with magnetic chitosan beads for the removal of Chlordimeform insecticide

Abstract: International audienceThe degradation of chlordimeform (CDM) has been investigated by a heterogeneous electro-Fenton process involving magnetite supported chitosan beads (Fe3O4-Cs) as catalyst. The catalyst was prepared by dropwise addition of an acidic chitosan-metal salts solution into sodium hydroxide precipitation bath. SEM, XRD and FTIR analysis were used to characterize the catalysts. The effect of experimental parameters, such as the current intensity, the amount of iron on chitosan beads, the concentra… Show more

“…A maximum accumulated H2O2 concentration of 5.92 ± 0.33 mmol L -1 was obtained at a current of -200 mA after 3 h of electrolysis, as shown in Figure 1(a). According to equation (2), a more negative current is expected to improve the production of H2O2 [34] at the cathode and the production of hydroxyl radicals at the Pt anode (Pt( • OH)) [35,36].…”

“…The system showed the best catalytic activity for low cross-linking concentrations, which the authors suggest being associated to the enhancement of system affinity towards the substrate and due to the good dispersion of Fe 3 O 4 , having attained a detection limit of 1.5 × 10 −6 mol L −1 with a linear detection range of 1.5–9.8 × 10 −6 mol L −1 [ 57 ]. The reader is referred to other articles if has an interest in the exploration of catalysis with magnetogels [ 58 , 59 , 60 , 61 ].…”

“…Recently, more interest has been given to heterogeneous electro-Fenton [4] using zero-valent iron [5,6], iron based clays [7,8], iron containing materials [9,10] and iron oxides minerals [11][12][13][14]. Great effort have been undertaken to develop active heterogeneous catalysts, such as the use of iron based solid particles [15][16][17][18] or hosting iron compounds on different supports [19,20,17,21].…”
