Electrochemical and Photophysical Properties of DNA Metallo-intercalators Containing the Ruthenium(II) Tris(1-pyrazolyl)methane Unit

Abstract: Three new ruthenium(II) complexes containing the tris(1-pyrazolyl)methane (tpm) ligand have been prepared: [Ru(tpm)(L)(dppn)]n+ (where n = 1; L = Cl (5), n = 2; L = MeCN (6) and pyridine (7); dppn = benzo[i]dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine). Complex 6 was structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Binding parameters of these complexes with calf thymus DNA are reported and compared to those obtained for a previously reported monocation, [RuCl(tpm)(dppz)]+. Binding studies with the dications… Show more

“…A perspective view of the complex was obtained by ORTEP. [78] [79] Absorption titration experiments were carried out by varying the concentration of the CT DNA while keeping the oxovanadium(IV) complex concentration constant. Due correction was made for the absorbance of CT DNA itself.…”

“…The irreversible signal detected at À1.50 V could be attributed to the second reduction of the dppn ligand. [14] In the oxidative part, the cyclic voltammogram shows an irreversible oxidation at E ox p = 0.76 V corresponding to the oxidation of the two pyrrole groups followed by a reversible peak system at E 1/2 = 0.92 V corresponding to the metal-centered Ru III /Ru II transition. The electropolymerization of [Ru(bpypyrrole) 2 (dppn)] 2 + was investigated by repeated potential cycling (20 scans) over the range 0.0-1.3 V (Figure 1 B).…”

“…These studies reveal that the new dppn systems are promising therapeutic and theranostic leads. Using the complex [(tpm)Ru(dppn)(Cl)] + and the dipyridyl tether ligand, both prepared using published procedures, [31,34] monomer complex 1 2+ is readily accessed. Bimetallic complex 2…”
