Electrochemical Characterization of Self‐Assembled Monolayer of a Novel Manganese Tetrabenzylthio‐Substituted Phthalocyanine and Its Use in Nitrite Oxidation

Abstract: Manganese phthalocyanine MnPc(SPh) 4 has been synthesized and used to form self assembled monolayers on gold electrodes. The well packed SAM monolayer was characterized by analyzing the blocking of a number of Faradic processes by cyclic voltammetry, evaluating the electrical characteristics of the modified electrode by electrochemical impedance and imaging the modified surface by electrochemical scanning microscopy. Finally, MnPc(SPh) 4 -SAM modified electrode displayed an electrocatalytic behavior toward the… Show more

“…10 The reactivity is due to the open-shell configuration and their tendency to axially coordinate. Manganese phthalocyanines are found to be used in many instances in the literature, for example, as catalysts in the oxidation of nitrite and nitrate, [11][12][13] oxidation of L-cysteine, 14,15 reduction of molecular oxygen, 16,17 electrolysis of water, 18 aziridination of olefins, 19 also as scavengers of superoxide. 20 There are also some reports about analytical applications of manganese phthalocyanines, e.g., in the determinations of vitamin B 1 in tablets 21 and triethylamine emitted from fish, utilizing the macrocycle as a gas sensor.…”
