Electrochemical Hybrid Methods and Sensors for Antioxidant/Oxidant Activity Monitoring and Their Use as a Diagnostic Tool of Oxidative Stress: Future Perspectives and Challenges

Abstract: The terminology used in electrochemical methods which are used to generate the measured signal in antioxidant/oxidant activity (AOA/OA) sensors is briefly considered. The review presents a hybrid version of electrochemical methods for the determination of AOA/OA. Invasive electrochemical methods/sensors for AOA/OA of blood/serum/plasma, and non-invasive ones for semen, sweat, saliva and skin determination are described. AOA/OA sensors application in health estimation, cosmetology, food and nutrients is present… Show more

“…[139][140][141][142][143] She also modified this method for the quantification of nucleic acids. 144 As many of her achievements are described in special issue dedicated to her achievements published in 2012 elsewhere, in this review we can just confirm that prof. Brainina is one of leading women pioneers of the modern pulse voltammetry applied in electroanalytical and environmental chemistry. She published more than 200 original scientific publications, while she authored several monographs devoted to the stripping voltammetry.…”

“…Reactions of AO with free radicals based on the electron transfer allow the application of the electroanalytical methods for their determination. High sensitivity, the rapidity of the procedure and relatively low costs, in addition to possibility of miniaturization make electroanalytical methods very attractive tools for the antioxidant analysis [7,15,[21][22][23][24][25] and an alternative to chromatography in screening application. Moreover, these methods can be combined with the detection in different types of liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis.…”

“…[164,165] Moreover, the development of gas sensors that can accurately detect VOC gases has important implications in a wide range of areas such as industrial safety control, environmental monitoring, and personal health. [166] However, conventional gas sensors are built on a solid substrate, it is difficult to meet the demand of application of wearable electronic devices. [167] Commercially available metal oxide sensors have difficult in working at room temperature.…”
