Electrochemical Properties of PANI as Single Electrode of Electrochemical Capacitors in Acid Electrolytes

Abstract: The polyaniline (PANI) powder with globular sponge-like morphology was prepared by chemical solution polymerization, and its morphology and chemical structure were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), respectively. The single electrode of electrochemical capacitor was made using the prepared PANI powder as active material and carbon paper as current collector. Electrochemical properties of PANI as a single electrode in 1 M HCl and 1 M H2SO4 ele… Show more

“…The characteristic peaks for PANI are as follows: The broadband at 3440 cm −1 corresponds to N–H stretching mode [24]. The asymmetric C–H stretching vibrations band is observed at 2921 cm −1 [25]. The main bands corresponding to C = N and C = C stretching mode of vibrations for quinone and benzenoid units of PANI were found at 1562 and 1471 cm −1 , respectively.…”

“…Firstly, CV was performed for PANI and the obtained voltammogram is shown in Figure 7 a with a well demarcated set of oxidation and reduction peaks that describe the direct relation of the current density with the scan rate. The direct relationship of current density and the scan rate is a clear explanation of the standard electrochemical charging and discharging property of the PANI [ 34 , 35 , 36 ]. A slow diffusion of ions to PANI could be evidenced by a little shift of cathodic and anodic extrema at each increased value of sweep rate.…”

“…In the PANI P1 spectrum, see Figure 2, green curve, two absorption bands are observed at 426 and 818 nm. These bands are reported in the PANI-ES phase, which has a green tonality and is poorly soluble in organic solvents [22,23]. The spectra of PANI P3, see Figure 2, violet curve, also has two absorption bands at 315 and 548 nm, the borders of which correspond to the violet-colored polyaniline pernigraniline base (PANI-PB) phase reported by Kang [2] and MacDiarmid [24].…”
