“…From an EC perspective, the recent ECaMS reports have focused on the investigation of cell designs, while from a MS perspective, the work has in part explored the bene®t of the newer interfacesaionization sources. For example, Hambitzer and co-workers [16,17] have made use of a thin-layer cell design, in which the counter electrode is isolated from the¯ow stream, coupled online with TS-MS to reexamine the oxidation of N ,N -dialkylanilines. Brajter-Toth and co-workers [18,19] have also explored the use of thin-layer cell on-line with TS-MS and PB-MS. Their new emphasis on the use of thin-layer cell designs, compared to¯ow through designs employing porous electrodes, was motivated in part by the more easy access to the working electrode for cleaning or modi®cation.…”

“…The cyclic voltammograms (CVs) and differential pulse voltammograms (DPVs) are shown in Figure S2 (Supporting Information), and the redox potentials, referenced to ferrocene, are listed in Table . In the oxidation region, diketones 16 – 18 show a typical irreversible aniline-type oxidation between 0.3 and 0.4 V, and application of higher oxidation potentials did not result in electrochemical peaks, but rather broad featureless decomposition. For comparison, the N , N -didodecyl-4-ethynylaniline precursor has an oxidation potential of 0.42 V (vs Fc/Fc + ) under identical electrochemical conditions.…”

“…Reversible monoelectronic oxidation was observed with linezolid as is general with anilines 13, 15. The typical reaction of aniline radical cation is coupling to benzidine, that is inhibited in this case by the presence of substituents in o,p ‐positions (see below).…”
