Electrochromic phenomena in transition metal oxide thin films prepared by thermal evaporation

Abstract: Abstract. We present an experimental study on the electrochromic properties of MOO3, WO3 and mixed WO3-MoO3 thin films prepared by thermal evaporation. We have constructed symmetric and quasi-symmetric electrochromic cells incorporating the evaporated oxide films as electrochromic layers. Li § doped V205 films served as ion storage layers. The symmetric cells were found to exhibit significantly improved optical properties compared to the quasi-symmetric ones, with very low luminous transmittance values in the … Show more

“…Recently, MONSTRs have been used in proof-of-concept electronic 1 5 , optical 6 8 , and sensing 9 14 devices; yet, their synthesis techniques endure several hurdles that limit their large-scale production. So far, various approaches have been used to synthesize metal oxide nanostructures, including chemical vapor deposition 15 17 , thermal evaporation 18 20 , hydrothermal 21 23 , and laser ablation 24 , 25 . Each of these methods incorporates challenging aspects such as being limited to only a few number of materials, costly processing or demanding high temperatures, which have limited their commercial applications.…”

“…The most common techniques to deposit electrochromic polymers on electrodes are spin coating (15), thermal evaporation (16), surface polymerization by chemical means (17), and electropolymerization (18), but the layer-by-layer (LbL) film fabrication method gives a fine degree of control to optimize the capabilities of electrochromic films (19,20). LbL deposition of polymeric thin films is a technique developed by Decher et al (21,22) new methods of thin film deposition of NPs (24)(25)(26).…”

“…To evaluate the general morphologies, the as-synthesized products were characterized by FESEM and the micrographs are reported in figure 3 To check the composition and purity, the as-synthesized ZnO nanopencils were examined by using EDS and elemental mapping, both attached with FESEM. O)bond and confirms that the synthesized material is ZnO [31,32]. In addition to the Zn-O band, a very short band appeared at 1627 cm -1 and a broad peak at 3439 cm -1 was also seen in thespectrum.…”

“…Until now a number of metal oxides nanostructures have been synthesized such as zinc oxide (ZnO) [19][20][21], copper oxide (CuO) [22][23][24], nickel oxide (NiO) [25][26][27] gallium oxide (Ga 2 O 3 ) [28,29] etc.Variety of metal oxide morphogoies such as nanorods, nanowires, nanocubes, nanocones ,nanobelts and nanotubes have been observed. These nanostructures have been prepared by different methods, such as thermal evaporation, [30][31][32] chemical vapor deposition, [33] chemical synthesis, [20,34,35] etc. The only two metal oxides we study here in this work are pure and doped ZnO and an iron oxide nanomaterials.…”
