Electrodeposited Bimetallic (PtPd, PtRu, PtSn) Catalysts on Titanium Support for Methanol Oxidation in Direct Methanol Fuel Cells

Abstract: The electrodeposition of platinum-based catalysts (PtPd, PtRu, and PtSn) using the pulse current deposition technique was carried out on titanium substrate to prepare electrodes of different compositions to identify a possible catalyst offering high catalytic activity towards methanol oxidation (MOR). Characterization by XRD, SEM, and EDX confirmed the deposition of catalysts with the desired composition with various morphologies of dendritic, spherical, and irregular deposits for PtPd, PtRu, and PtSn, respect… Show more

“…Electrochemical reduction has been proved to be a facile and green method to prepare PtPd bimetallic NPs [25], and GN-IL composite has attracted a widespread attention as a promising supporting material, which is beneficial to obtain smaller and well dispersed metal NPs [26]. In this work, the electrodeposited PtPd bimetallic NPs on GN-IL composite showed an average diameter of 30 nm with a high density and good dispersion (Fig.…”

“…This new clamping mechanism was able to hold the cell components together firmly, avoiding fuel leakage and limiting cell resistance, in addition to being easily extendable for stack operation, providing the possibility of individual cell diagnostics, and allowing the replacement of a faulty individual cell. Moreover, the researchers also used these new configurations to evaluate the performance of Pt and PtRu catalysts prepared by pulse electrodeposition on Ti mesh-based electrodes, which were employed and compared to the traditional carbon-based electrodes on the basis of their previous studies [146] and the well-known beneficial physicochemical properties of Ti mesh. In this study, the Ti mesh was used in order to decrease the MEA overall thickness, by acting as a catalyst support and a CC.…”

“…Noncarbon templates are being used when their advantages are more significant than the disadvantages of their presence [ 37 , 38 , 47 , 48 ]. A good example of this kind of material is titanium meshes, which show good conductivity and are electrochemically stable and, therefore, can be good support for a wide range of electrocatalysts.…”
