Electrodeposition of Copper Metal from the 1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium Fluoride ([EMIM]F)-urea-H2O System Containing Cu2O

Abstract: In this work, [EMIM]F-urea-H 2 O system is capable of dissolving Cu 2 O, and then the metallic copper was electrodeposited from this system at room temperature. The reduction of Cu (I) in this system involves a quasi-reversible and one-step single-electron transfer process. The electrodeposition of copper was performed on a tungsten (W) substrate at −0.67 V (vs. Ag) and 353 K via potentiostatic electrolysis. The electrodeposits were identified as metallic copper, as verified by XRD and EDS. SEM image shows tha… Show more

“…The competition for ligands to form metal-IL complexes would be a limiting factor at such high concentrations of metals. 64,67,68 Further recycling studies to understand the impact of electrodeposition time, its kinetics, a wider range of electric potentials used to remove all metals present should be investigated. The complexity of such system comes from the presence of a wide range of contaminants, as well as pretreatment degradation products and water.…”

“…24 The copper and zinc in RCS y ash and smelting slag can be leached using water or dilute sulfuric acid, and the leaching solution and leach residue can be treated using other methods. [25][26][27] However, limited information was found regarding the metal mobility and toxicity of RCS y ash and smelting slag.…”
