Electrodeposition of granular FeCoNi films with large permeability for microwave applications

Abstract: A simple methodology to fabricate soft magnetic FeCoNi granular films from cheap salt solutions via electrodeposition at room temperature is demonstrated. With the addition of a small quantity of organic and inorganic additives into the solutions, the FeCoNi nano-granular films possess ultra-high permeability, large resistivity, and other desirable magnetic properties for gigahertz microwave applications. Typically, the films have a coercivity of less than 10 or 20 Oe along the hard or easy axis, respectively,… Show more

“…film B in Figure a 1 ) and larger grain size (Table ). Thus, foreign elements are typically doped to adjust the structure (or inhomogeneity) and grain size for altering the FeCo film properties, and limited studies have been reported for high‐frequency devices with pure FeCo alloys. Therefore, we utilized a different technique to prepare FeCo films with varying characteristics by adjusting the arrangement of Fe and Co atoms.…”

“…The calculation method from the VSM hysteresis (M-H)l oop was the same as that reported previously. [10] During the measurement, the magnetic field was applied parallel to surfaces of the thin films. The crystallographic texture of the films was evaluated from 1" 1" specimens using aP hilips X'Pert X-ray diffractometer [Ultima IV, Rigaku Corp.; l = 1.5406 , Bragg-Brentano geometry,P W3088/60 (line focus) Cu PreFix mirror,w ithout filter and monochromator], and recorded at as can rate of 0.02 s À1 at 2q values from 20 to 908.…”

“…5,6 Furthermore, the resistivity of the films prepared by electrodeposition is larger than those fabricated by sputtering because the electrodeposited film is constructed by incompactly stacked particles. 5,7 The larger resistivity can resist the eddy current losses.…”
