Electroless Deposition of Ni-P/SiO2 Composite Coating

Abstract: Electroless deposit Ni–P/SiO2 composite coating was performed on the steel substrate, DIN EN 10130. The preparation of nickel coating included two main steps. In the first step, the fraction of SiO2 particles sized the tens of nanometres was obtained by sedimentation. In the second step, the composite coating was plated on the steel substrate. The actual deposition process contains the deposition of plain Ni-P interlayer which served as the nucleation center for the deposition of Ni-P/SiO2 composite coating wi… Show more

“…Fine crystalline particles of phosphide (Ni 3 P) are formed simultaneously, predominantly in the form of precipitates. 9 The highest value of the hardness of Ni-P coatings is reached after the heat treatment at 400°C for 1 h, when the hardness reaches a value of up to 1300 HV. 10 The hardness of Ni-P coatings can also be increased by reducing the phosphorus content by changing the ratio of the components contained in the nickel bath and by changing the coating-process conditions.…”

“…However, the corrosion resistance of Ni-P coatings increases with the increasing content of phosphorus. 1,9 The hardness of deposited low-phosphorus Ni-P coatings can be additionally increased by heat treatment. 5 During heat treatment, the deposited coating consisting of an amorphous Ni-P phase decomposes due to a gradual increase in the temperature to form crystalline particles of phosphide (Ni 3 P).…”

“…Tidak ada ikatan molekul antara partikel dan matriks logam [5]. Beberapa faktor yang mempengaruhi penggabungan patikel keras/halus ke dalam matriks electroless Ni-P yaitu bentuk dan ukuran partikel, densitas relatif partikel, muatan partikel, ketidakreaktifan partikel, konsentrasi partikel dalam bath, metode dan derajat agitasi, kesesuaian partikel dengan matriks dan orientasi bagian yang dilapis [6].…”

“…Palladium is used as catalyst and the nickel and copper electroless precipitation reaction is begun. Two metals (nickel and copper) are most widely used metals at the decorative plating of the plastics [6][7][8]. Electroless metal plating technique begins to apply by using catalyst.…”
