An approach emphasizing the complementarity of electric and magnetic fields within a weak relativistic approximation is suggested as a basis for presenting electromagnetism in an introductory university physics course. Within the electromagnetic unification approach, ''magnetic force'' and ''electromagnetic induction'' are each taught in a manner consistent with mechanics from a qualitative relativistic point of view. The Lorentz force and the magnetic flux rule are treated similarly, linking electrical and magnetic phenomena and improving the integrity and self-consistency of the course. The status of Faraday's integral law is discussed and is shown to be of limited validity in this context.

A brief historical review is made of the 180-year-old debate on Faraday's unipolar inductor. By introducing two convenient modifications of Faraday's original experiment of 1832, pertinent answers are experimentally found to the most debated problems: 1) Can Faraday's law be used? Yes; 2) Do the magnetic field lines rotate when the magnet rotates? No. 3) Can the seat of induction be unambiguously determined? Yes. 4) Is there a fundamental difference between rotational and translational motional induction? Yes: the "edge effect", whereby a negative field appears whenever a magnetic edge moves perpendicularly to itself. An additional experiment is presented to verify the theory. Finally, 5) Can Relativity Theory be applied? The Special Theory, no; the General one, yes.Index Terms-Edge effect, electromagnetic motional induction, relativity theory, seat of emf , unipolar induction.

Electromagnetic scattering and electromagnetic induction are research topics not directly associated to each other. In this work, these two different concepts are combined in a model constituted by a rotating circular coil with a dielectric spherical core at a fixed eccentric position. The scope of the analysis is to examine the effect of a permeable object on the production of the alternating voltage. Methods and formulas from both scattering and induction have been utilized for the derivation of the developed potential difference around the moving loop. Several graphs of the voltage output with respect to the geometrical and material characteristics of the configuration, are presented and discussed
