Electromagnetic structure of the deuteron

Abstract: Abstract. Recent high energy measurements of elastic ed scattering support the use of a relativistic theory based on an accurate description of the N N channel, but theory needed for an understanding of the high energy deuteron photodisintegration cross sections and polarization observables is not yet mature.PACS. 25.30.B, 25.30.D, F elastic and inelastic electron scattering -24.10.J Relativistic models (nuclear reactions)

“…The study of the electromagnetic properties of the deuteron has a long and rich history (for some recent reviews, see, e.g. [1]- [4]). The deuteron, as a spin-1 particle, is usually believed to be a weakly bound system of a proton and a neutron with a binding energy ǫ D ∼ 2.22 MeV.…”

“…The theoretical study of eD elastic scattering and deuteron EM form factors has been performed in different approaches [7]- [15]: potential models, phenomenological models including quark, meson and nucleon degrees of freedom, effective field theories, etc. (for an overview see [1]- [4]). In the present work we apply a phenomenological Lagrangian approach to study the EM form factors of the deuteron.…”

“…It is known that A(s, t) is dominated by a saddle point [5] which, in the Regge limit (3), implies that the integral receives its main contribution from the small z region, sz ≈ 1.…”

“…and, in the Regge limit, we can make the replacement q ≈ q. In the next q will be treated as a two dimensional vector, since (5) implies the orthogonality to the scattering direction. Due to the Sudakov's parametrization we may write…”

“…Furthermore, in a spin-1 system, for instance a deuteron or a vector ρ-meson, the charge, magnetic and quadrupole form factors can also reveal its intrinsic structures, such as its charge and magnetic distributions and the quadrupole deformation (see, for example, Refs. [25][26][27][28][29][30][31] for the deuteron and Refs. [32][33][34][35][36][37][38] for the ρ meson, respectively).…”
