Electromagnetically induced transparency of87Rb in a buffer gas cell with magnetic field

Abstract: We have studied the phenomenon of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) of 87 Rb vapor with a buffer gas in a magnetic field at room temperature. It is found that the spectral lines caused by the velocity selective optical pump effects get much weaker and wider when the sample cell mixed with a 5-Torr N2 gas while the EIT signal kept almost unchanged. A weighted least-square fit is also developed to remove the Doppler broadening completely. This spectral method provides a way to measure the Zeeman spl… Show more

“…The electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT), a quantum interference phenomenon, is related to increase in the transmission of a weak probe beam in presence of a strong coupling beam [1,2]. Since the conception of EIT, several applications of this phenomenon have attracted attention of researchers which include applications in optical communication network [3], optical switching devices [4,5], manipulation of group velocity of light and light storage [6][7][8][9][10], tight laser frequency locking [11], high resolution spectroscopy [12,13], atomic clocks [14], quantum information processing [15,16], highly sensitive magnetometery [17][18][19][20][21][22], velocimetry [23], etc.…”

“…1(b), which is similar to our previous work. [22,23] Both the master and slave lasers (Moglabs) have external cavity structures with line-width around 100 kHz. The master laser serves as the coupling beam, locked by a modulated SAS, and the slave laser is taken as the probe one, scanning across the D 2 line to record the EIT spectrum.…”
