Electron-beam-controlled N2O laser

Abstract: The predictions of a multichannel Landau-Zener model, which includes Taulbjerg'sf;,, factor, for single-electron capture by multicharged ions, have been compared with different kinds of experimental results (electron, x, u v and energy gain spectroscopies).A reasonable agreement has been found for the populations of individual nl sublevels of capture when the electron-core interaction prevails over the I Stark mixing and when the rotational coupling can be ignored. This model has been tested with large core io… Show more

“…Moreover, the addition of CO or H 2 into the gas mixture CO : Ar enabled us to enhance the maximum electric field strength (E/p) max in the EBSD and, accordingly, to significantly increase the value of the SIE Q m (figures 5 and 6). It should be pointed out that the same effect was observed in [22][23][24], where an addition of CO to nitrous oxide N 2 O resulted in considerable enhancement of the SIE in the EBSD and the development of an efficient N 2 O laser. In both cases, the major function of carbon monoxide is the decrease of the negative ions O − in a discharge due to the reaction…”

“…In [6] in an electroionization N 2 O laser (EIL), a decrease in the energy input to the discharge is associated with a decrease in the electron density due to the process of dissociative electron attachment: N 2 O + e → N 2 + O − . A decrease in the concentration of free electrons in the discharge, in turn, leads to a decrease in the specific energy input and lasing energy.…”

“…In a pulsed electroionization N 2 O laser, the values of the radiation energy, specific energy output and efficiency were obtained −8 J; 16 J/(l × atm) and 7%, respectively [6], and in a pulsed laser excited by a self-sustained volume discharge initiated by an electron beam, the above parameters were obtained as 465 J; 15.1 J/(l × atm) and 5.3% [7]. * Author to whom any correspondence should be addressed.…”

“…We have constructed a powerful and efficient EBCD N20 laser13 with energy and efficiency essentially exceeding the known values for electric-discharge N20 lasers. Liquefied components of the laser mixture (CO:N2;CO:N2:Ar) were injected in a gas flow in the form of finely-divided particles before an active volume, and cooled down the gas to necessary temperatures.…”
