Electron beam irradiation of ethylene‐propylene terpolymer: Evaluation of trimethylol propane trimethacrylate as a crosslink promoter

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The effect of electron beam irradiation on ethylene-propylene terpolymer (EPDM) was investigated. A 50-part oil-extended EPDM with high termonomer (ENB) content (iodine number of base polymer) 19, was selected for this study. An increase in irradiation dose from 0 to 200 kGy resulted in increased crosslinking, measured by an increase in gel contents and better swelling resistance. The effect of the multifunctional monomer trimethylol propane trimethacrylate (TMPTMA) as a crosslink promoter was studied… Show more

“…Variables such as radiation dosage and the effect of polymer microstructure and chemical additives on the efficiency of electron beam cure have been studied. Some researchers (Zaharescu et al, 2000;Chowdhury & Banerji, 2005) studied radiation-induced crosslinking in thermoplastic elastomers based on ethylene-propylene rubber (EPDM) and polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) plastics.…”

“…The transition state search for specific reactions was performed using quadratic synchronous transit algorithm [35] with root-mean-square gradient of 0.00418 kJ/ (nm  mol) as the terminal condition. The reactivity ratios of the Table 4 Specific reaction scheme and the associated rate constants considered in kinetic model for HPAB/DCP/ZDMA compounds [38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45][46].…”

“…Furthermore, M E0 may subsequently be calculated analogously to M P0 and M C0 . Kinetic parameters for specific monomer/polymer chemistry (ZDMA, TMPTMA, HVA-2) ( Table 4) were either obtained directly from literature [38], determined from literature data [39][40][41][42][43][44][45][46], or molecular modeling was applied as well.…”

“…S-au studiat variabile precum doza de radiaþii, efectul microstructurii polimerului ºi aditivilor chimici asupra eficienþei tratamentului cu fascicul de electroni. Unii cercetãtori [4,5] au studiat reticularea indusã de radiaþii la elastomerii termoplastici pe bazã de cauciuc EPDM ºi polietilenã (PE) sau materiale plastice din polipropilenã (PP).…”
