“…The analysis of lectin binding has shown substantial differences in the carbohydrate patterns between nerve and glial cells and between the somata of monoaminergic, cholinergic, and peptidergic neurons. Carbohydrate ligands to a lectin obtained from the albumen gland of the snail Helix pomatia (HPA --Helix pomatia agglutinin) were found on the surface of some cultured peptidergic neurons of this mollusc [9]. There were no such ligands on the surface membrane of both aminergic and cholinergic neurons.…”
